Lofted ring

A lofted part

About to loft

Creating an unnecessary number of guides for a loft

That was easy

The lofted part, also shelled and with a cut extruded through it

Did you spot that I forgot the flag?

The parts now assembled

Solidworks is a bit great, so here are some pics from my work today.

It’s too easy, unless you want to do a really really complex loft.

I’m reverse engineering a Mattbox. Now that I’ve taken it to bits I can see what an intricate and well thought-out piece of engineering it is.

Solidworks mirror function

Mirror in progress

That's a lot of relations

The result of the mirror

Blue aluminium

An attachment for rotating elements

It is important to dimension every element

I suppose this looks like quite a complex model

The cut tool is very useful

Creating solid around a hole

I had created a circle based on the centre point of the hole and I'm now cutting away unnecessary lines

Cutting is easy

Just click on a corner and set the radius of the curve

The fillet tool makes smoothing elements a breeze

Way cool

A nice result, and the next seven of these were just as quick to do

Starting monday I’ll be spending a week prototyping at Metropolitan Works using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

The aim for this training is to use it when working on a stereoscopic rig, but I’m going to start simple by reverse engineering a mattbox and reducing its reflectivity and perhaps also making it lighter.

Laser scanner here I come

My first victim!!!
